To Be Knight by Duane Michael Brown is an allegory of a young boy's path from hopelessness to a servant leader in the Kingdom of God.  Daniel, the main character, lives in a village continually plagued by the enemy.  In an act of faith, he asks for help and is surprised to find out that a request whispered in the quiet of his room is heard on the other side of the country by a king he has never met and who he never knew existed.  Just as the enemy is about to destroy his hope and his father, Daniel witnesses the power of the king and his knights.  This display of selflessness and bravery convinces Daniel that he wants nothing more than to help others the way he was helped by becoming a knight himself.  There is only one thing that stands in his way...he is a child.  Could a child dare to wish to become a knight in the kingdom.  Would a king so powerful even notice this young boy.  Unexpectedly Daniel discovers that not only does the king notice him, but he is about to be granted the privilege of a lifetime, simply because he is willing to deny himself to serve the king.  A great read for boys age 8-12.
